This INTERLINK deliverable D4 reflects on the earlier findings of the INTERLINK work packages A and B with respect to the indentified national roads authority (NRA)'s asset information management needs and issues: their business needs/issues respectively their subsequent data needs/issues. After defining the terms/concepts 'assets' and 'asset managment', 'asset information management' is positioned as the key concept for INTERLINK serving as an umbrella concept for the more technology-oriented concepts like Building Information Modelling (BIM), Geo-graphical Information Systems (GIS) and Systems Engineering (SE).
INTERLINK issued the report: “Information Management for European Road Infrastructure using Linked Data | Investigating the Requirements”. INTERLINK recently completed the first six months of a two year research project into the use of BIM for asset management of road infrastructure. The resulting report can be found at publications. Commissioned by CEDR, the research will result in a proof-of-concept European road object-type library using the cutting-edge capabilities of Linked Data and Semantic Web.
